Warrington Wolves Vs Wakefield post-match

Another defeat for Daryl Powell's Warrington side as they lose against a determied Wakefield side, 22-38. Willie Poaching's men came with a game plan and it worked to a tee, Wakefield's pack with the likes of David Fifita, Tinirau Arona, Kelepi Tanginoa and Eddie Battye just battering the light Warrington pack that is heavingly being criticised by the Warrington fans. This is now Warrington's third defeat in a row with them now sitting sixth in the league table just under the black and white side of Hull and just above the Salford outfit coming from a massive two points against the Leeds Rhinos outfit who from today, have parted ways with Richard Agar. Wakefield has now moved up the the league with their last two games being victories to sitting in eigth place above the likes of Leeds, Castleford, Hull KR and Toulouse.

The first try came in the first two minutes from Warrington number five, Matty Ashton, just weaving through the Wakefield defence from a brilliant play-of-ball from Josh Thewlis, who is filling in for Josh Charnley as he is currently serving his last match of his two-game ban. Brilliant chase from loanee, Morgan Escare, but Ashton was too fast for the french internatonal. Stefan Ratchford converted to make the game 6-0 from the opening couple of minutes.

Wakefield hit back on the 11th minute mark from sheer power from new signing, Liam Hood, showing his strengh to get over from a out of this world offload from prop-forward Arona with three Warrington forwards on top of him to get the ball away and great try from Liam Hood under the sticks and MOTM Mason Lino converts the try to make it, 6-6.

Warrington had all the ball and the constant pressure on the Wakefield line would soon of resulted in a try for the primrose and blue and it sure was from an amazing little dap through from Warrington's number 6 George Williams and into the gap with Toby King to get his first try of the 2022 Super League season. Stefan Ratchford again converts the try to make the game 12-6 with 22 minutes left of the half,

Wakefield instanly has a response with controversial try in the 24th minute of the game with a one pop play from try scorer Liam Hood giving the short ball to loose-forward Jordan Crowther to get over for Trinity which looked like a double-movement but referee Robert Hicks didn't think that way. Mason Lino conversion to make it 12-12.

Try of the game by some strech came in the 32nd minute of the game with Matty Ashurst taking the ball in with the Warringon players failing to wrap the ball up and Ashurst got the ball away to winger Tom Johnstone as he runs down the wing and short ball to Leeds loanee, Corey Hall, to get over for the Trinty to make them in the lead for the first time of the game. Mason Lino again converts for the trinity and to make the game a six-point swing with eight minutes left of the game, 12-18.

Warrington do get a response just on the stroke of half-time with out of confidence, Joe Philbin, making a storming run for the Warrington side and short little boy to Danny Walker to get over for a well-deserved try for Danny Walker right under the sticks. Stefan Ratchford converts to make it an even game at the intervial 18-18. Great first-half from both teams with it being well disciplined and played at a good tempo.

Second half started and Wakefield came out of the blocks early doors and dominated Warrington all over the pitch, the start of an incredible second half performance from the Trin with an amazing ball from Jacob Miller and brilliant line run from second-row, Matty Ashurst, to get over for the first score of the second-half. 18-24.

After the Wakefield try, it was a storming 14 minute segment from both sides battering each other and brilliant paced period. However, it was the Warrington side who got the points with fantasic play on the right-hand side from a Williams hanging kick with Thewis patting it down to new signing Oliver Holmes with him getting the ball away back to George Williams to then finish it off with Holmes getting the ball back and short ball to Josh Thewlis to get his first try of the season. Gareth Widdop misses the kick as Stefan Ratchford being forced off with an shoulder injury. 22-24

Wakefield hit back straight away with MOTM Mason Lino getting a deserved try in the 68th minute with a world-class step from the Samoan to get over for Trinity side and make there be a bit of breathing room going into the last 10 minutes. Lino converts his own try to make it 22-30 with then a penalty kick four minutes after from Mason Lino to make the game a 10 point margain with five minutes left.

Morgan Escare finishes his sensational performamce off with a well-derseved try just skipping through the Warrington's unorgainised defence and catches the stand in full-back, Pete Mata'utia, standing flat-footed and wraps an outstanding game for the Trinity side to get their second win of the season. Mason Lino converts all kicks he has had to do today and well-deserved the MOTM.

Game finishes- 22-38.

My thoughts on the game we're that Warrington again looked really sloppy in attack and defence with the Wakefield tries being relativley soft to give away. It's not looking good for the Warrington side at the minute but they do play Wakefield again on Sunday at 2pm on Premier Sports so they need to go into this game with better attitude and a determination to win. The Challenge Cup should be prority for Warrington's men to get Daryl Powell his first trophy as a head coach and to make them look like a big club, a team like Warrington should not be going trophyless for three years and it's unacceptable from a Warrington team. I feel also like some players are playing this poor because they have no-one behind them to fight for their space, so they don't neccasily have to play well because they are guarenteed a game every week. If I were Karl Fitzpatrick, I would get three championship prop forwards on loan for the season and make the players that are currentley there, fight for their spot. Wakefield are in a very good place now and most-likey stay safe from that relegation drop with the talent that they have all over the pitch.
